Very cool. The whole idea of driving with missing wheels is amazing.

This is a Canadian Vehicle, it was made and built in London Ontario and many were bought by the Canadian Forces. These were the next generation of vehicles after the 6 wheeled cougars and grizzlies which yours truly operated during my time in the reg forces.

The mud run with four wheels missing impressed me. This is the same vehicle that the US army uses as its Stryker and LAV-25 in the USMC

well its the early gen of the strykers, back from the early 90's, they also use the same body (hull) as the 6 wheeled AVGP, both used the detroit diesel, but the one in this lav is pretty high tech, its electronic fuel injection. only the ones with the turret have the CAT

I really liked the LAV over the M113. Nice smooth ride, good range, can self deploy, minimal maintenance on road marches, off the shelf components, no nonsense approach, made in Canada and so on...The bad, cramped interior for the grunts, armor cracking, loud engine and habit of commanders to use the vehicle as a light tank. This is used more like an armored truck, don't let the cool looks fool you.

The Cougar, Grizzly and Husky 6X6X6 AVGP are all based on the Swiss MOWAG Pirahana 1. They all had a 275hp 6V53 turbo engine. I was a vehicle technician in the Forces and worked on the 6 wheel variant.

It is too bad the CF hadn't found a suitable substitute for the Lynx. Having tracked and wheeled Recce would be nice. As you say there is a time and place for both...

I don't envy the poor fucken mechanics who had to pull hubs on and off all day in the mud.

tracks get stuck just as much as wheels, either way its usually caused by a stupid driver.

The Dutch army is using a mixed fleet of M113 tracked vehicles, and Patria wheeled APC's in Afghanistan. They even use the MB G (Gelandewagen) which doesnt offer any protection at all, not to roadside bombs, not to pistols !

no, its made by general dynamics, the original design was a 6 wheeled AVGP made around 1967. The hull of this LAV3 is based off of the same design, of course upgraded.

Boxer does have the advantage of being lighter, but in the Canadian forces we treasure survivability, and it is possible to mount much bigger guns on Coyote.
